Wrinkle Relaxing (Botox) 21 questions
How long does Botox last?
Results from Botox are not linear. You will see the most profound effects for the first 8 weeks, then the effects will gradually diminish. Results vary from person to person, but most clients return roughly every 4 months.
I'm thinking of Botox for the first time and am a tad apprehensive as I've seen some scary faces
Getting Botox is nothing to worry about, and it's our goal to keep our clients looking as natural as possible. Before any treatment, we would get you in for a free consultation to review what you were after and to answer any questions you may have.
Can I go swimming after having a Botox treatment?
It is best to leave 24 hours before heading to the pool or gym.
Can I go to a pilates class after having a Botox treatment?
Yes, you can.
I've had my Botox treatment and now I think some adjustment is required
Botox can take 2 weeks to fully settle in. If, at this time, you feel any area requires adjustment or topping up, then book in for a free review. This is best carried out between 2 to 3 weeks after initial treatment.
I have hooded lids and am worried Botox will make this worse
By treating your frown lines without placing any Botox across your forehead, it will not affect your lids.
Can you recommend something for hooded eyes?
Hooded eyes are not easy to treat, unfortunately. Botox can help slightly, but if they are very hooded then sometimes you are better spending your money on lid surgery instead.
What happens if I don't like the look of the Botox when it has been done?
The beauty of Botox is that if you feel you don't like it, it will wear off eventually without any long term effects, and you would not need to get it done again.
I have long covid, is it safe to get Botox?
Botox may worsen your condition, and you are better to wait until you are symptom free.
After getting Botox, how long do I wait until I can have my eyebrows tattooed?
You should get your eyebrows done first before Botox, so that the tattooist can do them at their natural height and shape, as Botox can change this.
I have smokers lines and I would like them filled but I don't want my lips touched
It can be difficult to improve smokers lines if you are adamant that you don't want anything in your lips, as improving the volume here, at least along the lip line, will make a significant difference. It also depends on how deep they are, as it can sometimes be a little Botox that is required to soften them, or a combination with filler.
What is a Ptosis?
Ptosis is a medical condition characterised by drooping of the upper eyelid. This can happen when the Botulinum Toxin is injected too close to the levator muscle, which is responsible for lifting the eyelid. The ptosis is usually temporary and resolves within a few weeks after the injection. This is why it is extremely important to have Wrinkle Relaxing Injections administered by a qualified and experienced healthcare professional who is familiar with the anatomy and function of the muscles in the face and eyes.
Does Botox make you look older after it wears off?
Over time, the ingredients in Botox break down into harmless amino acids, which are either used to make other proteins or removed by the kidneys. When Botox wears off, wrinkles like forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet gradually return, but you shouldn't look older than before. Botox has a preventive effect too, so used regularly it can help you look younger for longer even without existing wrinkles.
Can you stop Botox once you start?
Stopping won't hurt you in any way. There are no bad or harmful results. Your muscles simply won't be as loose, and you'll still be able to move the area completely. As Botox wears off, the wrinkles it was treating will gradually return.
Are there any natural alternatives to Botox?
Dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid or collagen injections work by filling in wrinkles and lines, typically lasting six months to two years. Botanical extracts like green tea and aloe vera can reduce inflammation and increase skin elasticity, and skincare containing retinol or peptides can encourage cell turnover and stimulate collagen. Daily SPF is essential alongside any of these. It's always worth consulting a professional before deciding on a treatment plan.
Are there any long-term risks associated with Botox?
Botox treatments are considered safe when administered by a qualified professional. Longer term concerns are incredibly rare, but may include eyelid drooping if injected too close to the eye area, muscle weakness due to migration of the toxin, skin infection at the injection site, or, if injected near the throat, difficulty speaking or swallowing. If you experience any serious adverse effects after Botox injections, it is essential to seek medical attention immediately.
Can anyone get Masseter Botox for face slimming?
Yes, both men and women looking for a non-surgical way to achieve a slimmer face or reduce tension from teeth grinding can consider masseter Botox. The jaw slimming effect will be more dramatic in someone who starts with a bulky muscle. An expert consultation is crucial to ensure suitability.
What should I expect after getting Botox injections in my jawline?
Post-treatment, you might notice your jawline beginning to appear softer and more contoured over time. The full effect typically emerges after two to four weeks, with results lasting up to 6 months.
Do you have a full Botox price list for West Lothian?
Yes. For patients who would like a full breakdown of Botox pricing across different areas, you can view our complete Botox pricing guide.
How long does Hyperhidrosis Botox last?
The results of Botox for underarm hyperhidrosis tend to last longer the more treatments you have, with the initial treatment lasting around 6 months. Some patients report the effects lasting only 4 months, others up to a year. After a number of years of treatment, results may begin to last up to 18 months at a time.
Are underarm Botox injections painful?
Not really. For most people, the discomfort when having underarm hyperhidrosis treated with Botox is mild. Even without pain relief, the procedure is very bearable, as it is quick and the injections are relatively superficial.
Fillers 42 questions
I have a cold sore, can I still get lip filler?
The cold sore must be completely healed before getting lip filler. You will need to wait until there is no scab or broken skin.
I want to get my lips done but I'm worried 1ml will be too much
For a first timer, 1ml of filler is usually perfect and would not make you look overfilled, as long as the right product is used for you. In our experience, 0.5ml does not provide enough of an improvement and you would likely be disappointed once the swelling settles.
How long will the swelling last?
It varies from person to person, but most swelling occurs in the first 24 to 48 hours then starts to go down. Some people have very little and don't need any downtime, although we wouldn't plan it right before an important event just in case.
How does the area get numbed?
We mostly use numbing cream first, which is generally sufficient to dull the discomfort. As Steph was also a dentist, she can numb the inside of the mouth by injection when requested, but you will be very numb for hours afterward.
Can I use a sunbed after a filler treatment?
We don't recommend using sunbeds for 2 weeks after filler treatment, as you can get increased swelling.
Is it possible to get rid of my lines by my mouth?
In order to address the lines at the side of your mouth, you'd require some filler. It's important to note that the lines won't disappear completely but will look much better.
What are the potential side effects of treatments for marionette lines?
Potential side effects can include bruising, swelling, redness or tenderness. You might also experience uneven results or lumps, and in rare cases, infection or allergic reactions could occur.
Can diet or lifestyle changes help reduce marionette lines?
Healthier habits can help. Regular exercise tightens your skin, while a balanced diet boosts collagen production, so you're combating marionette lines naturally. However, it won't erase them like treatments do.
Are there any natural remedies for treating marionette lines?
Regular facial exercises can tone the muscles and promote blood flow. Hydrating well, eating a healthy diet, and avoiding sun exposure could also help reduce these lines.
Is there a genetic predisposition to developing marionette lines?
Yes, there's a genetic predisposition. Your genes can influence how your facial skin ages and loses elasticity over time, which can contribute to the formation of these lines.
Are there specific skincare products recommended for people with marionette lines?
Choose skincare products with retinol and peptides, known to stimulate collagen production and help smooth marionette lines over time. Consult a dermatologist for personalised advice.
How does age influence the appearance of nasolabial folds?
As you age, your skin loses elasticity and collagen, the proteins responsible for maintaining its firmness. This leads to sagging and deepening of nasolabial folds, making them more noticeable with time.
Are nasolabial folds hereditary?
Yes, your nasolabial folds can be hereditary. Your genes play a role in determining your skin's elasticity and fat distribution, both of which can influence the development of these smile lines.
Can certain facial exercises reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds?
Certain facial exercises can potentially lessen the appearance of your nasolabial folds, by toning and strengthening the underlying muscles to create a naturally fuller and smoother look over time.
What are the risks associated with surgical treatment for nasolabial folds?
Surgical treatment for smile lines carries risks like infection, scarring, and nerve damage. It may also result in asymmetry or an unnatural look. Always discuss potential risks with your surgeon before proceeding.
How does smoking affect the development of nasolabial folds?
Smoking accelerates skin ageing. It reduces blood flow and damages collagen, making your skin lose its elasticity quicker. This eventually deepens your nasolabial folds or smile lines.
What is filler dissolving?
Filler dissolving is a safe and effective treatment designed to reverse the effects of hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers. Using an enzyme called hyaluronidase, the procedure breaks down unwanted filler, allowing the body to reabsorb it naturally. Whether you're unhappy with results, have experienced overfilling, or simply want to return to a more natural look, filler dissolving offers a reliable solution.
How long does it take for fillers to dissolve?
Most patients see the effects of filler dissolving within 24 to 48 hours. Hyaluronidase works quickly to break down the filler, and swelling or puffiness often subsides within this period. The full results can take up to 7 days to become clear, depending on the amount of filler and your body's natural healing response.
Is filler dissolving safe?
Yes, filler dissolving is considered very safe when performed by a qualified professional. Hyaluronidase is a trusted enzyme that has been used in medical and aesthetic treatments for years. As with any treatment, there is a small risk of allergic reaction, but an experienced practitioner will minimise any risks.
Does filler dissolving hurt?
Filler dissolving is generally well tolerated and causes minimal discomfort. You may feel a slight sting or pressure during the injections, similar to what you experienced when the filler was first administered. A topical numbing cream can be applied if you're particularly sensitive.
Can I have new fillers after dissolving the old ones?
Yes, you can have new fillers after dissolving, but it's best to wait around 2 weeks. This gives your skin and tissues time to settle and ensures any residual swelling or hyaluronidase has completely resolved, allowing the most precise and natural results when reinjecting.
How safe is a non-surgical nose job?
The fillers usually used in this procedure are biocompatible and biodegradable products, which means they are not harmful to the body and are broken down and removed naturally. These hyaluronic acid nose fillers come in the form of a sterile gel produced in the laboratory.
Am I suitable for a non-surgical nose job?
A non-surgical rhinoplasty can be an ideal solution if you are unhappy with the shape of your nose and do not want invasive surgery. A new look can be created by subtly and effectively changing the shape of the nose with filler. A bump on the bridge can be made less noticeable, and a 'hooked nose' can be treated by injecting filler into the tip for a lifted appearance.
Does getting a non-surgical nose job hurt?
Most patients find the treatment to be very comfortable and trouble-free. Modern fillers contain local anaesthetic, and this, coupled with a light-handed technique, makes the procedure quick and fairly painless.
What are the risks and side effects of a non-surgical nose job?
For most people, the only side effect is a little redness and sensitivity around the injection site in the day or two after the procedure. Other possible side effects include bruising, swelling, filler migration creating a wavy or overfilled look, and nausea. As with all cosmetic filler treatments, other complications may include bleeding, damage to the skin resulting in a wound, scarring, infection or lumps.
How long does a non-surgical rhinoplasty take?
A non-surgical rhinoplasty typically takes about 30 minutes. It's often referred to as the 'lunchtime nose job' because of its quick procedure time.
How soon after a non-surgical rhinoplasty will I see results?
You'll see a difference as soon as the filler is injected and shaped. Your nose might be a little swollen initially, so you'll get the most accurate idea of your new look after about one to two weeks, once any swelling has settled.
What dermal fillers are used for non-surgical nose jobs?
There are many different types and brands of filler available, but hyaluronic acid fillers, a substance that naturally occurs in the body and keeps skin hydrated and plump, are by far the most popular for non-surgical nose jobs.
How long do the results of a non-surgical rhinoplasty last?
The results typically last between 12 to 18 months, depending on the type of dermal filler used.
Can non-surgical rhinoplasty fix a crooked nose?
A nose filler treatment can improve the appearance of a mildly crooked nose. For more significant irregularities, surgical intervention might be needed.
Can I continue my usual skincare routine after non-surgical nose treatments?
You should continue with your usual skincare routine with a few modifications. Directly after treatment, avoid rigorous skincare routines or products that might irritate the treated area, particularly those containing retinoids or acids, and avoid applying too much pressure while washing or moisturising.
Can I drive myself home after a non-surgical nose treatment?
Since it's not a heavy-duty procedure, you should be fine to drive home.
Can you exercise after non-surgical rhinoplasty?
It's generally recommended to avoid strenuous physical activities, including going to the gym, for 24 to 48 hours following a non-surgical rhinoplasty. This helps minimise swelling and potential movement of the filler.
How much filler is needed for a non-surgical nose job?
This depends on the specific goals of the procedure. Even small amounts of filler can lead to noticeable changes in the nose's shape and contour, though the exact amount varies by individual anatomy, the corrections needed, and the filler used.
Will having nose filler affect my breathing?
The treatment involves injecting filler into the nose to alter its shape and contour, without touching the internal nasal structures crucial for breathing. If you already have a pre-existing breathing issue related to nose structure, a non-surgical rhinoplasty will not improve this, as it's solely a cosmetic procedure.
Can I improve fine lines under my eyes with Tear Trough filler?
For fine lines, it's more about trying to improve the quality of the skin, which is done using skin boosters like Neofound or BeautifEYE. These are carried out 3 times with 1 to 2 weeks between appointments to help tighten the skin. Tear Trough filler will generally only deal with the hollowing.
Am I suitable for Tear Trough Filler?
Tear Trough filler is not suitable for clients with puffiness under the eye that is worse on waking. If you only have dark pigmented skin under the eye without a clear tear trough depression, you are unlikely to achieve good results, and an alternative treatment may be better suited to your needs.
Do Tear Trough fillers hurt?
We use fillers that contain a local anaesthetic to provide a comfortable treatment. We use a cannula, a blunt ended hollow tube, inserted through only one injection point per side to safely deliver the product with minimal discomfort and trauma.
Can Tear Trough fillers be combined with other cosmetic procedures?
Yes. Combining treatments allows patients to address various concerns simultaneously, such as reducing wrinkles, improving skin texture, and restoring lost volume in the under-eye area, often leading to more harmonious and natural-looking results.
Are there any specific pre-treatment instructions to follow to minimise bruising or swelling?
It's essential to avoid blood-thinning medications like aspirin and ibuprofen for about a week prior to treatment, and to refrain from alcohol for 24 to 48 hours beforehand. Applying ice packs immediately before and after treatment can also help reduce inflammation or discomfort.
How soon after receiving Tear Trough fillers can I return to my regular daily activities, such as exercise or wearing makeup?
You can generally return to your regular daily activities quite quickly, with most people able to resume wearing makeup within a day or two. It's usually advised to wait 24 to 48 hours before engaging in strenuous physical activity, to minimise the risk of complications and allow the filler to properly settle.
Are there any natural or non-surgical alternatives to Tear Trough fillers?
There are several options that can help improve the appearance of under-eye hollows and dark circles, including adequate sleep, staying hydrated, cold compresses or chilled tea bags, skincare with retinol and hyaluronic acid, and topical lightening agents for dark circles. In-office treatments such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion and laser therapy may also provide noticeable improvements without injectable fillers.

Does Profhilo replace wrinkle relaxing injections?
Profhilo wouldn't replace Botox, as it doesn't stop muscle contraction, which is what causes wrinkles in those areas. It is more for skin rehydration, giving a plumping and tightening effect to the cheeks and mid face.
Can I get Profhilo?
Profhilo is recommended for adults who feel their skin has begun to sag, lose overall volume and fullness. It can be used on the face, neck, décolletage, hands, arms and body. It is not suitable for those wanting to replace lost volume in specific areas or alter the shape of their features, and is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women. It can be used with caution in those with blood disorders or who are immunocompromised, and those with active skin infections are advised to wait until they've cleared. It is not suitable for those with a hyaluronic acid allergy.
Does getting Profhilo hurt?
The procedure is usually very well tolerated with a small amount of discomfort. You may experience minor bruising and swelling at the injection site for about 24 hours. Mild discomfort is common and can be managed, with guidance and support throughout your treatment journey.
What results can I expect from Profhilo?
Your skin will look better hydrated almost immediately after treatment. You won't see the collagen and elastin benefit until at least six weeks after your first treatment, with the best results appearing 4 to 6 weeks after your second.
What are the side effects of Profhilo?
Profhilo has been in use worldwide since February 2015, with over 300,000 patients treated and no adverse reactions reported. Side effects such as redness, pain or swelling are mild and temporary. It is made from ultra-pure, natural hyaluronic acid, stabilised without chemical cross-linking agents, which reduces the risk of adverse reactions, so downtime is minimal.
What areas can be treated with Profhilo?
Profhilo is a rejuvenating treatment that can smooth fine lines, wrinkles, skin crepeiness and improve skin texture in areas including the face, neck, décolletage, arms (bingo wings), elbows, hands, knees, smokers lines and fine lines around the mouth, under-eye wrinkles, fine lines around the eyes, wrinkly cheeks, crepey hands and the abdomen.
What are the Profhilo aftercare requirements?
No makeup for 6 hours after treatment. Refrain from any facials for two weeks. No heavy exercise for 24 hours after treatment. Be gentle when washing the treated area of your face, neck, chest or hands, and try to avoid unnecessary touching of your face for the first 24 hours.
Is Profhilo a dermal filler?
Profhilo is not the same as a dermal filler. Although both contain hyaluronic acid, Profhilo does not have the same thick viscosity. It is a water-like gel with a similar consistency to honey, injected in small amounts across the face, spreading beneath the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin. It enhances an entire area rather than filling one specific line or fold, can flow freely through the deep skin layers in a way dermal fillers cannot, and won't produce lumps and bumps.
Does Profhilo get rid of face wrinkles?
It doesn't directly target face wrinkles like some other options, but it can contribute to a smoother complexion by boosting hydration and elasticity. It promotes collagen production, which helps prevent future wrinkle formation, and the increased hydration provides an instant plumping effect that makes skin appear smoother.
Are injectable treatments safe?
Injectable treatments such as Botox or Profhilo are generally considered safe when administered by a trained professional, and have been extensively researched and used worldwide for several years. It's critical to remember that everyone's body is unique and may respond differently to these procedures.
Can Profhilo be used on all skin types?
Yes, Profhilo can be used on all skin types. It's crucial to discuss your skin condition with a professional to determine the best treatment for your specific needs.
When will I see Profhilo results?
Results are visible after a single treatment, with long-lasting results and minimum side effects. Three treatments 2 to 3 weeks apart are recommended for optimum results. The duration of results depends on the degree of correction required and the individual's lifestyle, age and skin type.
What should I do after my Profhilo treatment?
Makeup should not be worn for 12 hours following treatment. Please refrain from drinking alcohol on the day of treatment.
What is the difference between Profhilo and Redensity 1?
Profhilo is currently used on the lower part of the face for skin laxity (not the forehead area), whereas Teoxane Redensity 1 can also be used all over the face as a full hydration treatment.
How does Neofound work?
Neofound works by injecting the product superficially into the desired area. The cocktail of rejuvenating ingredients works together to stimulate new collagen production, feeding the skin at a cellular level so it appears brighter, whiter and tighter.
Am I suitable for Neofound?
Neofound is not suitable when pregnant or breastfeeding, for people who suffer hypertrophic or keloid scarring, for those who are currently, or in the previous 18 months have, used Roaccutane, or for those with blood coagulation disorders.
What are the side effects of Neofound?
Depending on skin sensitivity and any medications you may be taking, such as aspirin, ibuprofen or other blood thinners, there is a chance of temporary, minor side effects including small bumps, mild swelling, or mild tenderness, bruising or redness at or around the injection site. All risks and side effects will be discussed in depth at your appointment.
How soon can I see results from Neofound treatment?
Most people notice improvements within two to four weeks following treatment.
Is the Neofound treatment painful?
Most patients describe the injection sensation as a mild pinch, or a bit like a sting from a bee.
How many Neofound treatments will I need?
This varies depending on individual skin condition and desired results. On average, patients undergo three to five treatments, spaced two weeks apart. After this, top up appointments every 1 to 3 months are advised.
Can I use makeup immediately after Neofound treatment?
It is recommended to wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup, to let your skin heal properly.
Is Neofound safe for all skin types?
Yes, Neofound is safe and effective for all skin types.

Is a Viscoderm Hydrobooster treatment painful?
You might feel a bit of discomfort during the procedure, but it will be brief, and you can resume your day soon after. Post-treatment, your face might feel a little uncomfortable, but this will fade in a day or two. The skin may appear red immediately after treatment but will quickly subside, with a possibility of some localised bruising.
Is Viscoderm Hydrobooster for me?
Viscoderm Hydrobooster is ideal for anyone seeking a smoother, firmer complexion with diminished fine lines and wrinkles, especially those whose skin appears dull, dry and lacks radiance. It can also work well for those with forehead wrinkles who are unsuitable for Botox due to the risk of developing a heavy brow.
How long does a Viscoderm Hydrobooster treatment take?
Each appointment lasts approximately 30 minutes.
When will I see Viscoderm Hydrobooster results?
Most patients report an instant visible enhancement in the treated area, with plumper, firmer skin. Some outcomes can be observed as soon as two weeks, but optimal results typically appear 6 to 8 weeks after treatment.
What are polynucleotides, and how do they work in eye treatments?
Polynucleotides are naturally occurring molecules made up of nucleotides, the essential building blocks of DNA. In eye treatments, these molecules promote skin repair and regeneration, stimulating collagen production, improving skin elasticity, and boosting hydration. This helps smooth fine lines, reduce wrinkles, and diminish under-eye puffiness, leaving the delicate eye area looking fresher and more rejuvenated.
What can I expect during and after a Polynucleotide treatment?
A polynucleotide eye treatment is quick and straightforward, typically lasting around 30 minutes. The practitioner uses a fine needle or cannula to carefully deliver the treatment into the under-eye area. Afterward, it's common to experience mild redness, slight swelling or tenderness at the injection site, usually fading within a few days. Results develop gradually, with the most significant changes often visible around the three-month mark.
How many appointments are required for optimal Polynucleotide results?
Achieving the best results often involves completing a course of 3 treatments, spaced about 2 to 3 weeks apart, allowing the skin to respond effectively for gradual and sustained improvements. Many people choose maintenance appointments every 6 to 12 months to preserve the results.
Are there any side effects or risks associated with Polynucleotide eye treatments?
Polynucleotide eye treatments are considered very safe, with minimal risks or downtime. The most common side effects are mild and temporary, such as slight redness, swelling or sensitivity, usually subsiding within a few days. Serious complications are rare when performed by a trained and qualified professional.
Who is an ideal patient for Polynucleotide eye treatment?
This treatment is suitable for anyone looking to address visible signs of ageing or tiredness around the eyes, including fine lines, wrinkles, dark circles and puffiness. It's effective across different skin types and age groups, though a consultation with a specialist is essential to assess your unique skin needs and goals.
Advanced Laser Treatments 13 questions
Can you explain what a laser is?
Lasers used for aesthetics treatments work by emitting an intense, focused beam of light that travels in a single direction, at a specific wavelength that can be adjusted in intensity and pulse duration for different applications. There are various types of laser, each with its own specific function. For skin resurfacing, lasers fall into two categories, ablative and non-ablative, with the choice depending on your needs and the most suitable treatment approach.
What is an ablative laser?
An ablative laser is used in skin resurfacing treatments and works by removing the outer layers of skin, targeting the epidermis and, in some cases, the upper layers of the dermis. By vaporising damaged skin, it stimulates the body's natural healing process, promoting new, healthy skin growth and boosting collagen production. It's effective for wrinkles, scars and fine lines, but often involves some downtime.
What are non-ablative lasers?
Non-ablative lasers work by heating the deeper layers of the skin without removing or damaging the surface layer. They stimulate collagen production and help improve skin tone, texture and elasticity, while reducing fine lines, wrinkles and mild scars. Since the skin's surface isn't broken, they generally involve minimal downtime and faster recovery than ablative lasers, though multiple appointments may be needed. Examples include Nd:YAG, diode and fractional lasers.
What are the potential side effects of facial laser treatments?
Skin discolouration, usually temporary, can occur, along with a slight scarring risk, especially if post-treatment care isn't followed correctly. Your skin may also experience sensitivity such as dryness or redness. These risks are generally minimal, and most people find the benefits outweigh potential downsides.
Can facial laser treatments be combined with other skincare procedures?
Yes, you can combine facial laser treatments with other procedures, both injectables and home skincare, to enhance your results. It's crucial to consult with your skincare specialist first to ensure safety and tailor a plan to your unique needs.
How often should I undergo facial laser treatments for optimal results?
The frequency of treatments depends on your skin goals and type. Typically, you'll start seeing results after three to five appointments, spaced four to six weeks apart. Maintaining results calls for a treatment every six months to a year.
What steps should I take to prepare for my first facial laser treatment?
It's crucial to prepare your skin beforehand. Adjust your skincare routine by ditching exfoliating products and embracing a gentle cleanser, and schedule a consultation to discuss your skin goals. Although laser treatment is suitable for all skin types and ethnicities, it is advisable to avoid prolonged sun exposure or self-tanning products in the run up to your appointment.
Are there alternative treatments to lasers for thread vein removal?
Alternative treatments include sclerotherapy, microsclerotherapy and endovenous laser treatment. The most suitable option depends on the size and location of the veins, and individual patient factors.
What are the potential side effects of laser thread vein removal?
Potential side effects may include skin discolouration, blistering, scarring or minor burns. These are generally rare and temporary, with most patients experiencing minimal discomfort post-procedure.
How long does it take to recover from a laser thread vein removal procedure?
Recovery varies between individuals, typically ranging from a few days to two weeks, depending on factors like overall health and the size of the treatment area.
Is thread vein removal available on the NHS?
Thread vein removal is generally considered a cosmetic procedure, and because of this it is typically not available on the NHS, which usually only provides treatments that are medically necessary.
Can you remove thread veins at home?
It is generally not recommended to remove thread veins at home without medical supervision. While various home remedies and over-the-counter treatments are available, their effectiveness can vary, and improper use may lead to side effects or worsening of the condition.
Do thread (spider) veins mean poor circulation?
Spider veins are not necessarily a direct sign of poor circulation. They are caused by the weakening or damage of small blood vessels near the skin's surface, often due to genetics, hormonal changes, sun exposure, or prolonged standing or sitting. In some cases, they may relate to an underlying condition called venous insufficiency, more commonly associated with varicose veins.
Skin Tag & Lesion Removal 7 questions
Why should I consider removing skin tags?
Although skin tags are benign and don't cause harm, they can occasionally snag on clothing or jewellery, leading to discomfort or bleeding. Many people opt to remove them to improve their appearance or reduce the risk of irritation.
How are skin tags removed with a laser?
Laser removal uses a concentrated light beam to precisely target and eliminate the skin tag tissue, which reduces bleeding and allows for a faster recovery. This approach is accurate, with minimal discomfort and little to no downtime.
Is laser skin tag removal painful?
Most individuals feel little to no pain during the laser procedure. The treatment is quick, and any mild discomfort can be eased with a numbing cream if necessary.
Are there any risks or side effects with skin tag removal?
Laser skin tag removal is generally safe, but minor side effects such as temporary redness, mild swelling or slight discolouration may occur at the treatment site. These effects are typically short-lived and resolve on their own.
How long does the skin tag removal process take?
Laser removal of a skin tag is usually fast, often requiring just a few minutes per tag. The overall time needed depends on the number and size of the skin tags being treated.
Will the skin tag grow back after removal?
Once removed, a skin tag rarely reappears in the same spot. New skin tags may form elsewhere on the body, especially in areas prone to friction.
Is it safe to have skin tags removed with a laser?
Yes. Laser removal is a well established and safe procedure when carried out in a professional clinic setting. At Quiet Aesthetics, all treatments are performed in a controlled, medical grade environment for your safety and peace of mind.
Facials & Skin Maintenance 12 questions
Is Dermaplaning the same as shaving?
No, dermaplaning is not the same as shaving your face. Though they're very similar, dermaplaning delivers exfoliation along with hair removal.
Will my hair grow back thicker and darker after dermaplaning?
It's common to feel a little stubble as hair starts growing back in. This doesn't mean your hair is thicker or more coarse, it's to do with the way each hair was cut straight across. The hair feels different but it's the exact same texture and colour as before dermaplaning.
Am I suitable for a Dermaplaning treatment?
Dermaplaning is appropriate for most skin types, especially those with sun damage, fine lines, dry patches and dull skin, but you should avoid it if you have an active rash, sunburn, or moderate to severe acne or rosacea, cold sore outbreaks, eczema, moles, freckles, skin tags or other skin growths, or psoriasis.
How often should I get dermaplaning treatments?
The frequency depends on your skin type and individual needs. On average, it's recommended every 4 to 6 weeks.
Is dermaplaning painful?
Dermaplaning is typically a painless procedure. You may feel a slight scraping sensation, but it's generally not uncomfortable.
Can I wear makeup after dermaplaning?
It's best to wait at least 24 hours after dermaplaning before applying makeup, to allow your skin to recover and prevent potential irritation.
How soon will I see results from dermaplaning?
Many people notice an immediate improvement in their skin's texture and appearance, though the full benefits may take a few days to become evident.
Do dermatologists recommend dermaplaning?
Many dermatologists recommend dermaplaning as a safe and effective treatment for exfoliating the skin and removing fine vellus hair, often praised for making the skin appear smoother, brighter and more youthful.
What does your face look like after dermaplaning?
Your face typically appears much smoother, brighter and more youthful. The process exfoliates the top layer of skin, removing dead skin cells along with fine vellus hair, leaving the skin looking refreshed and allowing for deeper penetration of skincare products.
How long do dermaplaning results last?
Results will last between 4 and 6 weeks. Results will differ from person to person.
Am I suitable for a Hydrofacial treatment?
Hydrofacial is appropriate for all skin types, but you should avoid it if you have an active rash, sunburn, or moderate to severe acne or rosacea. If you are pregnant, please let us know in advance so we can tailor your treatment, as some ingredients used, such as salicylic acid, haven't been tested and proven safe during pregnancy.
Are Hydrofacial treatments safe?
On rare occasions, after treatment your skin may experience a heat sensation, itching, flaking, lumps and bumps, redness or swelling. Although rare, these can still happen, and all are manageable and not permanent. If you experience any of these, please contact the clinic.
Chemical Peels 11 questions
Does a chemical peel hurt?
A superficial chemical peel such as BioRePeel or Fillmed's Light or Bright peels will produce a slight burning, tingling sensation on the skin for 3 to 5 minutes. The mild discomfort subsides once the peel is neutralised.
How long does a chemical peel last?
A light or superficial peel produces results that usually last between one and two months. A medium peel's results will last between two and six months.
How soon can I expect to see results after a BioRePeel treatment?
You can typically see some immediate effects, such as brighter and smoother skin. For optimal results, especially for concerns like acne or signs of ageing, multiple treatments are usually recommended. Everyone's skin responds differently, so results can vary.
How many BioRePeel treatments will I need?
This depends on your specific skin concerns and goals. Some people see significant improvements after just one appointment, others need a series of treatments. Your skincare professional can provide a personalised treatment plan, although a course of 3 appointments will often deliver results.
Does a BioRePeel treatment hurt?
BioRePeel is generally a comfortable procedure. Some people may experience a slight tingling or mild discomfort during the treatment, but this typically subsides quickly once the procedure is complete.
Can I use my regular skincare products after a BioRePeel treatment?
Your skin may be more sensitive than usual after a BioRePeel treatment. Avoid using skincare products with high concentrations of retinol, glycolic acid or salicylic acid for a few days.
Is BioRePeel only for the face?
No, BioRePeel can be used on several areas of the body, not just the face. It's often used to treat skin concerns on the neck, chest, back and hands. Always consult with your skincare professional to determine the best treatment areas for your individual needs.
What is the downtime after a BioRePeel treatment?
BioRePeel is often referred to as a 'lunchtime peel', because it's so quick and non-invasive that you could get it done on your lunch break and head right back to work.
How often should I have a BioRePeel treatment?
This depends on your skin type and the specific concerns you're addressing. As a rule of thumb, it's often recommended to start with a series of about 4 to 6 treatments, spaced one to two weeks apart, then maintain results with a BioRePeel every 1 to 3 months.
How long do BioRePeel results last?
Improvements like smoother skin texture, less visible lines or lighter pigmentation can last for several weeks to a few months, depending on skin type and skincare routine. BioRePeel isn't a one-and-done treatment, so regular appointments, roughly every 1 to 3 months, are often recommended for sustained results.
Will I peel after a BioRePeel treatment?
Immediately after treatment your skin might feel a little tight, with possibly some mild redness, but nothing that would stop you going about your usual routine. You may notice a bit of flaking or peeling after a few days, as your skin sheds its old layers for the fresh, new skin underneath.
Medical Grade Skincare 14 questions
Can I use my usual skincare after treatment?
It's best to avoid high street products immediately after a professional treatment. Many contain fragrance or alcohol that can irritate freshly treated skin. Medical grade skincare is designed to be gentle yet effective during recovery.
Do I need to use medical grade skincare every day?
Yes, consistency is key. Even the best treatments need support between visits. Using your prescribed skincare daily keeps your results on track and helps maintain a strong, healthy barrier.
Is medical grade skincare only for people with skin problems?
Not at all. Medical grade skincare isn't just corrective, it's preventative. It helps protect healthy skin from future damage and keeps it looking its best.
Can I buy medical grade skincare online?
Authentic medical grade skincare should always be recommended by a qualified practitioner, to ensure you're using the right products for your skin type and concerns.
When should I review my skincare routine?
We usually suggest reviewing every few months or alongside your regular treatments. Skin changes with the seasons, lifestyle and age, so small adjustments help maintain your best results.
Can I use medical grade skincare while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Medical grade skincare often contains potent active ingredients such as retinoids, hydroquinone or salicylic acid, which may not be safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Many brands also offer pregnancy-safe alternatives, such as vitamin C serums and hyaluronic acid-based products. Always consult your healthcare provider or dermatologist to tailor your routine to your needs during this time.
How soon will I see results from medical grade skincare?
The timeline depends on the product and the specific concern being treated. Minor improvements in texture or hydration can often be seen within 2 to 3 weeks. Pigmentation reduction or acne improvement may take 6 to 8 weeks, and anti-ageing benefits, such as reduced fine lines and improved elasticity, can take 3 to 6 months, as these processes involve deeper skin regeneration. Consistency is key, and results often improve the longer you use the products under professional guidance.
Are medical grade skincare products suitable for all skin types?
Yes, medical grade skincare is formulated to cater to a wide range of skin types and concerns, from lightweight, non-comedogenic formulations for oily or acne-prone skin, to gentle products with soothing ingredients for dry or sensitive skin, anti-ageing formulations for mature skin, and products tailored to treat hyperpigmentation or post-inflammatory marks on darker skin tones. A professional consultation ensures the right products are selected for your unique skin needs.
What are the potential side effects when using medical grade skincare?
Because of their high potency, medical grade skincare products can cause mild irritation, especially during the initial phase of use. Common side effects include dryness or peeling, particularly with retinol or exfoliating acids, temporary redness as the skin adjusts, and sensitivity to sunlight, especially with retinoids or alpha hydroxy acids. To minimise these risks, start with lower concentrations, use products every other day, incorporate a high-quality sunscreen, and always patch-test new products.
What should I expect when transitioning from over-the-counter to medical grade skincare?
Switching can involve an adjustment period. Your skin may go through a 'purging' phase, particularly with products containing retinoids or exfoliating acids, lasting 2 to 4 weeks, which may involve increased breakouts or dryness as the products accelerate cell turnover. Introduce one product at a time, use a gentle cleanser and moisturiser to support your skin barrier, and be patient while your skin adjusts to more potent formulations.
Do I still need sunscreen with medical grade skincare?
Absolutely. Sunscreen is a non-negotiable part of any skincare routine, especially when using medical grade products, as many active ingredients like retinoids or exfoliating acids can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. A broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher is recommended daily, and medical grade skincare often includes sunscreens with added antioxidants for enhanced protection.
How do I know which skincare brand to choose?
Brands like ZO Skin Health, Obagi and SkinCeuticals have built strong reputations for their science-backed products. The best brand for you depends on your specific skin concerns and goals, and a professional consultation will help identify the most effective products and brands for your needs.
Do medical grade products work for men's faces?
Absolutely. Men's skin, which tends to be thicker and oilier, can benefit significantly from medical grade skincare. Products tailored to men's concerns, like razor bumps, acne or excessive oil production, are readily available, and a professional consultation can recommend specific formulations to suit men's unique needs.
Can medical grade skincare prevent signs of ageing?
Yes. Prevention is a cornerstone of medical grade skincare. Products containing antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and retinoids not only address existing wrinkles but also slow the development of new ones, protecting against environmental damage and stimulating collagen production to maintain youthful skin over time.
SkinPen Microneedling 4 questions
How many SkinPen treatments are necessary?
Generally, patients will require a series of three to six treatments spaced four weeks apart. The exact number of appointments needed can vary depending on the individual's skin condition and desired outcome.
What are the long-term side effects of SkinPen?
There are few long-term adverse effects associated with using SkinPen, though some risks may include hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation of the treated area depending on skin type, as well as potential infection at the treatment site if proper sanitary procedures aren't followed.
Are there any age restrictions for SkinPen treatments?
You must be over 18.
How long do the results of a SkinPen treatment last?
Results can last anywhere from three months up to permanently, depending on the type of treatment chosen and how well a person follows their aftercare routine.
Body Contouring & Firming 13 questions
What is Ultrasound Cavitation and Radio Frequency?
Ultrasonic Cavitation, also known as Ultrasound Liposuction or Ultra Cavitation, is a non-surgical fat removal procedure that uses scientifically proven non-invasive technology to break down unwanted fat, while radio frequency is a non-invasive heat treatment that helps tighten, contour and refine deeper lines of the skin over the face and body. During treatment, a specially designed applicator selectively targets fat cells in the chosen body area without harming surrounding tissue. With no downtime, clients can lose up to 5cm from the first treatment, with additional fat reduction continuing in the following weeks.
What areas can be treated with Ultrasound Cavitation and Radio Frequency?
Treatable areas include the abdomen, hips, love handles and flanks, inner and outer thighs, upper arms (bingo wings), bra and back rolls, buttocks, chin, and face (radio frequency only).
How long do Ultrasound Cavitation results last?
To maintain results it's important to follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly, and to drink 8 glasses of water a day before and after treatment, as fat elimination is accelerated by hydration.
Am I suitable for Ultrasound Cavitation and Radio Frequency?
Treatment isn't suitable for everyone. Your BMI should fall within the treatable range, no more than 30, as significant obesity is outside the treatment range for the contouring effects of ultrasonic liposuction. Some medical conditions and medications will also make certain patients unsuitable. This treatment is not suitable if you are on your period, as ultrasound increases blood flow and this may feel very uncomfortable.
Is a Radio Frequency facial painful?
Most people find the treatment comfortable. Some heat and mild discomfort from the radio frequency waves may be experienced during treatment, but it is generally described as a warm massage.
How long does a Radio Frequency treatment take?
The procedure usually takes around 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the area being treated.
How soon can I expect to see results from a Radio Frequency treatment?
Some people may see minor immediate improvements, but the best results usually appear over the course of a few weeks to months, as your body produces more collagen and elastin, tightening the skin.
Are there any side effects to Radio Frequency?
Possible side effects include redness, swelling or a warm sensation in the treated area, but these are typically mild and resolve within a few hours.
How often should I get Radio Frequency skin treatments?
A series of treatments is typically recommended for optimal results. This can vary based on your skin type and desired outcomes, but a general guideline is one appointment every week for around 6 to 8 weeks.
Can I use makeup or skincare products after my Radio Frequency treatment?
Yes, you can apply makeup or skincare products after treatment, but it is recommended to let your skin rest and breathe for at least a few hours.
Is the Radio Frequency procedure safe for all skin types?
RF facial treatments are generally safe for all skin types, but it's crucial to consult with a professional first to discuss your specific situation and potential risks.
How many Radio Frequency treatments are required?
2 appointments are normally required, 8 weeks apart. We would then suggest returning every six months to have your treatment reviewed and topped up for longer lasting effects.
How long do Radio Frequency results last?
The results last about 6 months.
