Who is Suitable
iPixel laser skin resurfacing is suitable for adults who want to improve skin texture, reduce scarring or address the visible effects of sun damage and ageing. It is effective across a wide range of skin types and tones, though Fitzpatrick skin type is assessed at consultation to ensure the correct settings are used.
iPixel is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for those with active skin infections or open wounds in the treatment area, for those taking certain medications including Roaccutane within the previous 18 months, or for those with photosensitive skin conditions. A patch test is required before your first appointment. Full suitability is confirmed at consultation.

What is laser skin resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing uses focused laser energy to stimulate your skin’s natural renewal process. We use the iPixel applicator on our Harmony XL Pro, which creates tiny microscopic channels in the skin’s surface, triggering collagen production and encouraging fresh, healthy skin to replace areas affected by scarring, texture and uneven tone. It’s one of the most effective treatments we offer for meaningful, lasting skin improvement.
Who is suitable for laser skin resurfacing?
Most people are good candidates. It works particularly well for acne scarring, uneven texture, enlarged pores, fine lines and sun damage. We always carry out a full consultation and patch test before treatment to assess your skin and make sure the protocol we use is right for you. If there’s a reason it’s not appropriate, we’ll tell you honestly and suggest an alternative.
Does it hurt?
Most patients find it very manageable. We may apply a numbing cream beforehand, and during treatment you’ll typically feel a warm, prickling sensation. The level of intensity varies depending on the area being treated and the settings we use. We always work at a pace you’re comfortable with.
Is it suitable for my skin tone?
The iPixel is suitable for a wide range of skin types. We assess your Fitzpatrick skin type at consultation, as this influences the settings and protocol we use. If you have a darker skin tone we take additional care with settings to ensure your treatment is both safe and effective.
How many appointments will I need and how often?
This depends on what you’re looking to improve. For mild texture concerns, some patients see excellent results from a single appointment. For more established scarring or deeper texture changes, a course of three to six appointments spaced four weeks apart gives the best outcome. We’ll give you a clear recommendation at your consultation.
What does recovery look like?
For the first day or two, your skin will feel warm and look red, similar to mild sunburn. Over the following days you may notice some light flaking or peeling as the skin renews. Most patients feel comfortable returning to work within two to five days, though this varies depending on the intensity of treatment. Full healing typically completes within one to two weeks.
What aftercare do I need to follow?
We provide full written aftercare instructions after every appointment. The key things are to keep the skin clean and moisturised, avoid sun exposure and wear SPF daily, and avoid active skincare ingredients like retinoids and acids until the skin has fully healed. We’re always available if you have questions during your recovery.
When will I see results?
Initial improvements in texture and tone are usually visible within one to two weeks as the skin heals. Collagen remodelling continues for several months after treatment, so the full benefit builds gradually. Most patients see their best results three to six months after completing a course.
Can it be combined with other treatments?
Yes, and we often recommend it as part of a broader skin plan. iPixel resurfacing combines well with treatments. We’ll map out the right combination and sequencing for your skin at consultation.
What are the possible side effects?
Redness, mild swelling and light flaking are normal and expected after treatment — these are signs the skin is responding and healing. Less commonly, some patients experience temporary changes in pigmentation, particularly with deeper treatments. Infection and scarring are rare when aftercare is followed correctly. We discuss all of this with you before your appointment so there are no surprises.
