Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid injectable that works differently from traditional dermal fillers. Rather than adding immediate volume, it stimulates the body’s own collagen production gradually over time, rebuilding the skin’s underlying framework and restoring facial structure in a natural, progressive way.
It is particularly well suited to patients noticing early signs of facial ageing, softening through the cheeks or temples, or a general loss of skin support and firmness. Results develop over several weeks as collagen production increases, with improvements continuing after each appointment. The outcome is refreshed, naturally supported skin rather than an overfilled or artificial appearance.
Sculptra is typically delivered as a course of appointments tailored to your individual needs. Results can last up to two years, making it one of the longest-lasting injectable treatments available. The number of appointments and vials required is discussed and planned at your consultation.
Who is Suitable
Sculptra is suitable for immune-competent adults experiencing gradual volume loss, softening of facial contours or reduced skin firmness who are looking for a natural, progressive result with long-lasting collagen-stimulating benefits.
Sculptra is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for those with a history of or susceptibility to keloid or hypertrophic scarring, for those with active skin infections or inflammation at the injection site, or for those with known hypersensitivity to any of its components. How it works
Stimulate Rebuild Restore
Sculptra is injected into the deep dermis or subcutaneous tissue using a grid or cross-hatch technique across the areas being treated. The poly-L-lactic acid microparticles act as a biostimulator, triggering the body’s own fibroblasts to produce new collagen around the injection sites. Unlike dermal fillers, there is no immediate volumising effect. Instead, results develop gradually over several weeks as collagen production increases, with improvements continuing after each appointment. The full outcome becomes visible around three to four months after completing the course.
What to Expect
Aftercare
Sculptra requires minimal downtime and most patients return to their normal day immediately. There are a few important guidelines to follow after treatment, including a specific massage routine that is essential for best results.
Immediately After Treatment
Some swelling, redness and tenderness at the injection sites is normal and typically settles within a few days. Avoid touching the treated area and do not apply makeup for at least 24 hours.
The 5-5-5 Massage Rule
Massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days after treatment. This helps distribute the product evenly and reduces the risk of nodule formation. We will demonstrate the technique at your appointment
First 24 to 48 Hours
Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds and alcohol for 24 to 48 hours. Avoid blood thinning supplements, vitamin E and aspirin where possible.
First Two Weeks
Avoid other facial treatments including laser, microneedling or massage for at least two weeks. Avoid excessive sun exposure and apply SPF daily to the treated area.
