There are a variety of treatment options available to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, one of which is injections with Botulinum Toxin, commonly known as Botox. This is a prescription-only treatment that temporarily prevents the muscles from contracting by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles. This allows the wrinkles to relax and soften.
Botox is most effective for dynamic lines caused by facial movement. Static lines from sun damage may require additional treatments such as skin boosters, resurfacing or filler.
Who is Suitable
Botulinum Toxin type A is the most widely used form in cosmetic practice. Suitable candidates are generally 18 or over with moderate to severe dynamic lines caused by facial movement such as frowning, squinting or smiling. Patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have certain neuromuscular conditions are not suitable.

Botulinum toxin works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that cause targeted muscles to contract. When injected with precision into the correct anatomical points, the overlying skin is allowed to rest, softening existing lines and preventing new ones from forming. Results develop gradually over 7 to 14 days as the muscle activity reduces. The treatment is quick, requires no anaesthetic, and you can return to your day immediately. Effects typically last 3 to 4 months, with many patients finding results extend over time with regular treatment.

What to Expect
Aftercare
Wrinkle relaxing injections require no downtime. You can return to your normal day immediately after treatment, with a few simple guidelines to follow in the first 24 hours.
Immediately After Treatment
You may notice small raised areas at the injection sites that settle within a few minutes. Mild redness or tenderness is normal and resolves quickly. Avoid touching or massaging the treated areas for the rest of the day.
First 24 Hours
Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms and lying flat for 4 hours after treatment. Do not apply pressure to the treated area. Alcohol is best avoided for the remainder of the day.
When Will I See Results?
Results develop gradually over 7 to 14 days as the muscle activity reduces. A free review appointment is offered at 2 to 3 weeks if any area requires adjustment or topping up. Do not judge your results before 2 weeks.

How long does botox last?
Results are not linear. You will see the most pronounced effect for the first 8 weeks, after which effects gradually reduce. Most patients return every 3 to 4 months to maintain results. With regular treatment over time, many find the intervals between appointments can extend as the muscles become less active.
Is botox safe?
Botulinum toxin is one of the most extensively studied prescription medicines used in aesthetics. When administered by a medically qualified practitioner with a thorough knowledge of facial anatomy, it is a very safe treatment with a low risk of side effects. At Quiet Aesthetics, all injectable treatments are carried out by dentist-qualified practitioners with over many years of clinical experience.
Will I look frozen or unnatural?
Not with the approach we take. Our goal is always a natural, refreshed result. We assess your facial movement carefully before treatment and use the minimum effective dose to soften lines while preserving your natural expression. A conservative approach during your first appointment means we can always add more at your review if needed.
Does botox hurt?
Most patients describe the injections as a very mild discomfort rather than pain. The needles used are extremely fine and the treatment is quick, typically completed within 20 minutes. No anaesthetic is required.
I have had my botox and feel an adjustment is needed. What should I do?
Botox takes up to 2 weeks to fully settle. If at that point you feel any area requires adjustment or topping up, book in for your free review. This is best carried out between 2 and 3 weeks after your initial treatment. Please do not come before 2 weeks as the product will not yet have fully taken effect.
What happens if I don't like the result?
The beauty of botox is that if you feel you don’t like it, it will wear off naturally without any long-term effects and you are not obligated to have it done again. Results are temporary by nature.
What is the difference between botox and fillers?
Botulinum toxin relaxes muscles to soften dynamic lines caused by movement. Dermal fillers add volume to restore lost fullness or sculpt features. They work differently and address different concerns and many patients benefit from both as part of a personalised treatment plan.
What happens at the free review appointment?
We offer a complimentary review at 2 to 3 weeks after your treatment. If any area needs a small adjustment or top-up, we carry this out at no additional charge.
I have hooded lids. Will botox make this worse?
By treating your frown lines without placing any botox across your forehead it will not affect your lids. This is something we assess carefully at consultation and your treatment plan will be tailored accordingly.
I have smokers lines but do not want my lips touched. Is that possible?
It can be difficult to improve smokers lines without any treatment to the lips, as improving the volume along the lip line tends to make a significant difference. It also depends on how deep the lines are, as sometimes a small amount of botox is needed to soften them, or a combination with filler. This is something we would discuss fully at your consultation.
What is a Ptosis?
Ptosis is a temporary drooping of the upper eyelid that can occur if botulinum toxin is injected too close to the levator muscle. It typically resolves within a few weeks. This is why it is essential to have wrinkle relaxing injections administered by a qualified and experienced practitioner with a thorough knowledge of facial anatomy.
Does botox make you look older after it wears off?
No. When botox wears off, the muscles simply return to their normal activity and lines gradually reappear as they were before. Regular treatment does have a preventative benefit over time as muscles that are consistently relaxed tend to become less active, meaning lines may be less pronounced than they would otherwise have been.
Are there any long-term risks associated with botox?
Longer term concerns are very rare. Botox is a temporary treatment and the product breaks down naturally over time. Potential side effects such as temporary eyelid drooping or mild muscle weakness are uncommon and typically resolve quickly. It is important to have treatment carried out by a medically qualified practitioner to minimise any risk. If you experience any serious adverse effects after treatment please seek medical attention immediately.
