What Causes Nasolabial Folds

Nasolabial folds are the lines running from the sides of the nose down to the corners of the mouth. They are entirely normal anatomical features, everyone has them when smiling, but as we age and volume decreases in the cheeks and mid-face, these folds deepen and become visible even at rest.

Deep nasolabial folds can make the face appear heavy or tired, and for many patients they are one of the most noticeable early signs of facial ageing. The fold itself is often more a symptom of volume loss above it than a problem in its own right.
