What Causes Ageing in the Neck and Decolletage
The neck and chest are often the areas that reveal age most honestly, and the areas most neglected in daily skincare. The skin here is thinner than on the face and contains fewer sebaceous glands, making it more vulnerable to dehydration and UV damage. Horizontal neck lines, vertical neck bands, crepiness and uneven tone across the décolletage are all common complaints from the late thirties onwards.
The platysma muscles of the neck also contribute significantly to ageing in this area. As these bands become more prominent, they can create a dragging effect on the lower face and a disjointed appearance between the jaw and the neck.
